1 shoot, 2 shoot, 1 Runway

Life has been crazy the last few weeks, so because of that I have not been able to do as many shoots as I care to do. However, I think the chaos has left, so I should be starting to do more and more. I have a shoot on Saturday. Actually I have two not just one. The first one is a new concept to me, and I am so excited for it. It will be an amazing addition to my portfolio. The shoot, is a body paint shoot. I will be painted to mimic a Monarch butterfly. I will also have 8ft wings to pose with, which should pose an interesting challenge. It will be a very directed shoot since the background will be added in in the post process. Its different to what I am used to because I am used to using my imagination and just going with free style poses. The body painting process is going to take about 4 hours before the shoot even starts. And since its a kinds odd situation a good friend of mine will be attending the shoot with me. Just to keep an eye out. Anyways, back to the shoot. The actual shoot will only last an hour or two, then washing everything off with be another 30-60 minutes.

After all of that, I head off to do another shoot with Dress To Thrill. Another one on one shoot. This time we are going for more artistic concepts, and a few more action ones as well. I always have fun with these shoots, and we get some great results. O! Head shots are also needed at this time, so we will be doing several of those as well.

As i get more experience I am wanting to venture out into runway. This will be very hard for me to do since im not the usual 5’7-5’11 height, but you never know until you try. I would rather go and audition and be rejected than not even try at all. I know I will get rejected WAY more than accepted, but if you cant get over rejection in this industry then dont enter it to begin with. Its time to work on my walk, and look for castings. This should be interesting, and naturally I will keep everyone on here updated.

Not model related, I am going to start my own personal blog away from this one. Feel free to check it out if you wish.

Woah, its been how long?

I know its been awhile and I am here to tell you why.

The 6 shoots never happened. Only 3 of them did. They other 3 were canceled due to different reasons, but one of them was rescheduled and just recently happened. The results were amazing, and im extremely glad we rescheduled.

That shoot was done in Denver, and it was an infrared shoot. The camera had been altered, and the photographer was experimenting with it. I had 4 different types of fabric to play with each of which had a different effect. After a while we added a fan, so I got even more creative and started throwing the fabric into the air. In our minds we totally had a god/goddess idea, but in the pictures it didnt look like that lol. Still got some amazing results.  The camera makes everything a different shade of white or blue, and my skin, pale as it is, was even more pale with the camera. I almost look like stone, and its a really cool effect. Statue comes to mind. Overall, I made a new friend, and plan on meeting up with him for another shoot. Another infrared, only this time we shall be out in the Forrest.  We will see how that one goes, I think its going to go vampireish, but who knows really.

I also had another shoot with Dress To Thrill, this time a one on one session. Which is good, as I have said before i like the salons, but i like the one on one better. I have more creativity and more freedom to do what I want. I have yet to see these pictures, but I am excited, we did some cool stuff ranging from aviators, to odd poses on a chair, to jumping. I should see these within a week or so. The next shoot actually =)

Face, Body, Feet, Hands….You Name It.

This is more for me to get my thoughts out on “paper”, but it is also to maybe help you. By sharing what I have learned, I am hoping to help you as well. Make sense? Good.

Hands: While posing you need to be aware of every part of your body. Some more than others, like your hands. At first you wouldn’t think where your hands were would make such a big difference, when truth is hands are just as important as the expression of your face. I have learned that relaxed hands usually come out more appealing, unless your going for that “umph” look. By taking a deep breath and just relaxing between shots can help relax your body and your hands into a more natural position. Also, the position of your hands is super important depending on the type of photo it will be. If you want a head shot, its best to have your hands above your waist. If its a full body, you can really have your hands anywhere. Adding onto this, this is not a “rule” just more of a observation, but ive noticed that the space between your hands is important as well. Like you dont want your hands on the same body part, or if they are, your body needs to be tilted, so that when you draw a stright line your hands dont cross the same line. Am I making sense?

Body: In reality this could be a blog on its own, and its so versatile that its really more of an opinion than anything else. Body position is important. Simple as that. If you have the wrong angle it can make for a horrible photo. Angles are everything in a picture, they hide things, they can make you appear taller, they can make you skinnier. They can also do bad things for you. So my opinion in this case is to never be flat to the camera. Dont have your shoulder and your hips towards the camera at the same time in other words. It can make you appear wider. No one wants that. A good angle is to have your shoulders towards the camera but your hips off to the side. Its an easy common pose, but it can help you become more aware of your angles. As you progress and get better and learn more, you will understand your body better and know which angels look right on you.

Face: Expression can make or break the photo. There are so many things to do with your expression, so many results. The one thing you dont want is a blank expression. You could have the best form in the word but if your dont bring expression and emotion into the picture it will be worthless.  Your expression defines the mood of the picture. What I do to get an expression, I think about something that puts me in that mood. If I want to be sexy I try to connect with the camera like I would a boyfriend. If I need to be sad, I think about something that makes me sad ect… It doesnt always work, I get that, but its worth a shot. The main thing here is to find what works for you, I am merely stating what works for me.

Im am going to close by saying this: Find out what works for you and go for it. Practice in the mirror at home when you brush your teeth, or get out of the shower. Use the TFC shoots to help you find your angles, and discover your body. All of the above are simply my observations and what works for me.

1 of 6 – Dress To Thrill

All right, so the 1st of 6 shoots has been completed.

I was expecting to be the first one there but to my surprise 2 other models had already showed up. I wont say names for safety reasons. They seemed nice and were ready to go. I felt a bit strange at first since I knew no one there except the photographer I have been working with a lot recently. Everyone was quiet at first not really saying much. Then one of the two photographers was set up and took one of the other models to his spot in the studio. I watched for a bit, and I really liked her style of clothing. Her style in general. I did not get long to watch then the other photographer called me over and we started out session.  I wont lie, things started out kinda rough. My angles were off, my face was off, everything was off. But it got better as time went on, so I guess it was ok.

We switched back and forth between photographers and outfit changes, and soon after 2 more models came in. One of them was a previous friend of mine. My first thought, was ugh less time with the photographers, but they worked really hard on their makeup (which looked amazing by the way), so that took a bit of time, and allowed the models who were there before to get a good amount of time in. More outfit changes, more switching photographers.

Overall it was fun. The only negative thing would be that to me it seemed that the models had their own cliques. Which I understood because some of the models are younger. But, I dunno how to explain, at some point I felt unwelcome, but getting past that took 2 seconds of thought and determination. Back to the fun, I got a lot of shoot time in, and some decent outfits. Im becoming more aware of what looks good and what does not, which is a good thing.

During the times I was not shooting or changing clothes I watched the other models to see how they posed their hands, and how they moved their bodies, or how they moved from pose to pose.  Learning is a constant in the modeling world, and in order to stay in this world you need to be able to keep learning. I did learn a lot today, from one in particular. Ive been working on my hands, which in my opinion need a lot of work, and she has beautiful hands.

Anyways, overall, fun =). If you would be interested in modeling  with this group please contact Richard Bemis at dresstothrill@gmail.com. He is the owner of this group, and if you would please send a picture along with your email so he can put a face to your name. He will set up a one on one shoot with you to see how things go and such. He is fun, our minds are extremely alike.

Pre-shoot

Hello everyone! This is not a blog, but more of a pre-blog series of the up coming week.  I have 5 photo shoots within a 10 day period.  It is my intention to share my experiences one at a time as they happen. Possible try to give newer models a sense of security. I know its scary going to a photo shoot with a photographer you have never met personally before, but after awhile you get used to it, and start to enjoy the experience of meeting new people.  Now im not saying security is not important, its always important.  There are always people out there trying to take advantage of other people and trying to hurt other people.  So safety first!  When a photographer contacts me I always check out their business, if they have one. If not I check out their name.  If they are a brand new starting photographer neither of these will work, and in that instance you may request to bring an escort. Red flags to look for:  If they ask you to deposit money into your account and then send money to an unknown persons. This is a scam, and its a fake check.  The bank will hold you responsible for all the money. This is kinda vague but if they seem suspicious or unprofessional in any way. Asking for nude pictures, asking to skype are examples. These are only a few red flags, but you do need to have a sense of your own safety. Only you can judge what is real and what is not. Oh! random thought, also ask the photographer for all the information before the shoot, so you know exactly what to expect.

Anywho, My shoots are on the 16, 17, 19, 20, and the 25th.
16th will be a photo salon with 2 different photographers, and several models. Anywhere between 2 and 8 can show up. Ideally 4 or 5 is best. But its a time to try new things and have fun, and meet other models and photographers.
17th is just a expand your book shoot. No golas are set, no plans, just going to have fun, shoot ideas back and forth and see what we can come up with. It should be fun.
19th is a night shoot, and we shall be “Jumping” in and out of the car, driving around to different places to get several different looks.
20th is an artistic shoot done in a studio with lots of mirrors. We are trying to recreate a photo called “Sheer Beauty”. We also want to experiment with a blue light seeing what we can come up with there.
25th is a car shoot for a calendar, some amazing cars too! Im excited, I love cars, and these are super pretty cars. Plus, it will be interesting to see what will happen with the cars. Its a bit bigger than any prop I have used before. If fact its almost that im the prop, not the car.

So those are the outlines. I will share my experiences as they happen, on here.
